Conditions of enrolment

It should be noted that the Ecole Maternelle de Melbourne must take into account the existing procedures of the two Australian kindergartens hosting our classes at Renown and Brookville.

• When to enroll your child at EMM ?

Parents can enroll their child at any time but they can only attend EMM once they are 3 years old.

• How old must your child be to attend the classes at EMM ?

Your child must have reached their 3rd birthday on or by April 30th of the year of their class attendance.

Example: If the school year begins in January 2010 and that their date of birth is 30 April 2007, your child will be able to attend EMM. They can not however attend the class before the day of their 3rd birthday, but school fees must be paid for missed sessions in order to reserve their place. This is due to the rules of the Australian kindergartens.

• What should be your child’s level of understanding of the French language ?

The EMM is intended for children who can understand french as their mother or father tongue.

Prior to the child’s enrolment, teachers may request an interview with the parents and the child in order to determine if the level of understanding of the language is sufficient to enable them to follow the program.

EMM reserves the right to review with the parents maintaining the child in the class if they have great comprehension difficulty through out the year. This option will always be considered by primarily taking into account your child’s interest and well-being.

• How to enrol your child ?

The fee to be added onto the waiting list is $ 100 (1), payable by cheque (to the Ecole Française de Melbourne) or bank transfer (contact Ecole Française de Melbourne to obtain the bank account details).

The enrollment of your child on the waiting list will only happen upon reception of the application form and payment (based on date of postmark).

• When will you receive a response ?

You will receive a confirmation of your child’s enrolment on the waiting list shortly after reception of the completed form and payment.

Offers of places are sent in the second half of the year preceding the requested school year, depending on availability.

• How does our waiting list work ?

It often happens that the number of applications exceeds the number of places available and many children we would like to enroll can not be accepted. A prioritisation system has been applied since the creation of EMM, and is detailed below :

   1. Priority is given to children who have already integrated the curriculum of EMM (2)

   2. then to brothers and sisters of children who have already attended EMM (in order of reception of the enrollments)

   3. finally, the other children, by order of reception of the enrollments

However, the enrollment on the waiting list will only be definitive when the child and the parents have fulfilled all the conditions previously set forth in the paragraph « conditions of enrolment ».

• Notes:

(1) The fees are non refundable

(2) Provided that the child has started attending the EMM class before 30 June of the previous year. This priority applies to children who start in the "3 year old" section and continue in the "4 year old" section.
